Tui Na means to press or grip. It is a massage which has been
developed to compliment Chinese Medicine. It differs from Shiatsu
in that treatment is carried out with the patient fully clothed
lying on a couch rather than on the floor. Marcus usually uses
Tui Na in conjunction with Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Cupping.
Tui Na is used to treat a wide range of illnesses by stimulating
the meridians by using a combination of manipulations that relax
muscles, ease pain and promotes blood and Qi circulation.

Gua means to rub or create friction. Sha
is the term used to describe congestion of blood at the surface
of the body. Gua
Sha is a healing technique used throughout Asia. Treatment is
applied on the skin in repeated even strokes which creates small
red “petechiae” which fades in minutes and disappear
in two to four days. The colour and rate of fading are both diagnostic
and prognostic indicators. The benefits of Gua Sha are numerous
as it moves “stuck” blood, promoting normal circulation
to the muscles, tissues and organs directly beneath the surface
treated, which can alleviate stiffness, pain and mobility. Normal
metabolic processes can thus be restored. Gua Sha is considered
to be an adaptive technique as it has the ability to cool the
overheated; warm the chilled; nourish the deficient; clear the
excess.

This meditative practice is a skilful art which coordinates
the mind and body. It is an energy exercise achieved through
movement and a standing posture while concentrating on breathing
techniques to calm the mind. This creates two main effects:-
1. Regulates the functional activities of the body and maintains
a dynamic equilibrium.
2. Enables the body to reduce energy consumption and increase
energy accumulation.
